Borrowed Lives

What should have been the happiest day in Fernanda Valente’s life turns out to be the most painful; her fiancé, Fabián, never showed up at their wedding. Completely devastated and oblivious to the fact that it was her own mother who blackmailed Fabián into not marrying her, the sweet and joyful Fernanda changes drastically after that terrible day, becoming sullen, cold and distant.

Meanwhile, hundreds of miles away in Paraguay, a young professional named Chema is having problems of his own. After losing his sales job at a company that went bankrupt, he had to become a taxi driver to make a living.  But things have gotten even worse: an unexpected situation, unjustly, lands him in serious trouble with the law. Looking for a way out, Chema turns to his best friend, Marcos.

The timing could not be better because Marcos and his mother are about to leave to Peru, where his uncle- Fernanda’s father- has lived for many years and is offering Marcos a job at his company. Wanting to help his desperate friend, Marcos decides to bring Chema with him to Lima

It is on the flight to Peru where Chema’s fate is determined. Just a short distance away from the Peruvian coast, the airplane crashes and only a handful of passengers survive. Chema is amongst them while Marcos and his mother are not so lucky. When Chema regains consciousness at a hospital in Lima, he not only realizes what had happened but is also shocked to learn that Marcos’ uncle, Edgar, has confused him for Marcos, whom he has never met, and is sparing no expense to make sure that his “nephew” fully recovers. Knowing that is nearly impossible for anyone to discover his true identity, after all of the documents and luggage were destroyed in the crash, Chema sees this as the perfect opportunity to escape all of his problems… So he plays the game and moves in with his newfound family, which includes his “cousins” Renato and Fernanda. One will become his greatest enemy and the other his greatest love… because Chema is the only man able to penetrate Fernanda’s tough exterior, bringing her tormented existence back to happiness and love.

And so, Chema begins his new life as Marcos, a borrowed life that will bring him many joys and challenges, as well as force him to make many difficult decisions.
